I believe Marek Wyszynski's extraordinary (and usually unspoken) fluency in anatomy and physiology facilitate his lucid teaching of self awareness, self-correction and efficiency of movement — the Feldenkrais technique.

DYNAMIC ANATOMY AND AWARENESS THROUGH MOVEMENT
with Anastasi Siotas

Dr. Feldenkrais left us over 1,000 Awareness Through Movement lessons to investigate and learn from, each one functioning as a blueprint for optimizing human action. It is vital for us — as Feldenkrais Practitioners and students — to have a clear image of what ‘ideal’ body organization might look like, and its potential for improving action. Dr. Feldenkrais used an imagined human ideal as a means to initiate the direction of his investigation with himself and with every student he worked with.

The Dynamic Anatomy workshop series offers a functional and kinesthetic exploration of the musculoskeletal system in relation to Awareness Through Movement lessons. In each workshop we will deconstruct one lesson, examining how each configuration creates constraints and highlights relationships that can help us to improve function and action. To understand the potency of these constraints, we will examine the ways in which the lesson organizes our skeleton to effect the transmission of muscular force, and explore the neuromuscular synergies that contribute to improved coordination, flexibility and reduced effort. The understanding of anatomy will help you to formulate images of ideal functional organization, and guide you in improving the quality and efficiency of your movement. Studying with this depth will help you to understand the strategic logic of all Awareness Through Movement lessons.

Anastasi’s unusual background in cell biology, dance and motor learning has afforded him a unique perspective as a movement teacher. As a scientist, he is able to question, analyze and consider the evidence at hand rigorously and systematically. As a learning specialist, he is able to see the unique structure, strategies and conditions of the person he is observing. As a dancer, he is able to kinesthetically understand the other person and to create new strategies in movement that enhance the other person’s functional capacities. Having taught dancers and movement educators over the years, I can confidently say that Anastasi is extraordinarily gifted and capable.
